National Women’s History Month is celebrated in March each year at the Department of Justice to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of women to our Nation and to reaffirm the Department’s commitment to supporting the employment of women at all levels and in all occupations at the Department. The national theme for this year’s observance month is “Valiant Women of the Vote:  Refusing to be Silenced.” This theme is an extension of the 2020 theme, which was “Valiant Women of the Vote.”

The Department observed the 2021 Women’s History Month with special remarks by Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Pamela S. Karlan, on March 30, 2021, via WebEx. Ms. Karlan was named the Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General of the Civil Rights Division (CRT) in February 2021. A legal scholar on voting rights and political process, she also served as Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the CRT Voting Section from January 2014 to September 2015. For additional information about Ms. Karlan, please visit: https://www.justice.gov/crt/staff-profile/acting-assistant-attorney-general.
