2021 Department of Justice Women’s History Month Observance

National Women’s History Month is celebrated in March each year at the Department of Justice to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of women to our Nation and to reaffirm the Department’s commitment to supporting the employment of women at all levels and in all occupations at the Department.  The national theme for this year’s observance month is “Valiant Women of the Vote:  Refusing to be Silenced.”  This theme is an extension of the 2020 theme, which was “Valiant Women of the Vote.”

The Department will observe 2021 Women’s History Month with special remarks by Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Pamela S. Karlan on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. via WebEx.  Information on how to access the event via WebEx will be provided at a later date.

Ms. Karlan was named the Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General of the Civil Rights Division (CRT) in February 2021.  A legal scholar on voting rights and political process, she also served as Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the CRT Voting Section from January 2014 to September 2015.  For additional information about Ms. Karlan, please visit https://www.justice.gov/crt/staff-profile/acting-assistant-attorney-general.

Employees are encouraged to read the 2021 Presidential Proclamation on Women’s History Month.  Additional sources of information on Women’s History Month and contributions of women are available.  Among on-line resources are web pages by the Library of Congress, Women’s History Month.Gov, National Park Service, and the National Women’s History Museum.

The Department and its DOJ Component Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Offices look forward to conducting dynamic special emphasis events during 2021. These events will provide employees the opportunity to learn more about the Department’s diverse workforce, and ongoing work to foster an inclusive work environment and to ensure EEO for all. All DOJ employees are encouraged to participate in these events as they are scheduled.
